I graduated from a top Ivy League college and was lucky to land a job at a reputable well known company. I thought success was working up the ladder until you made it. But I quickly discovered how toxic work culture can be. Everyone was expected to work unpaid overtime, our bosses had big egos and we were criticized harshly. I became depressed and realized what society expects me to do was something I hated. I wanted to work for myself so I got the courage to do that. I decided to embrace what I do and let go of the shame I had attached to this work. I love making people happy and have found meaning in this work. I feel empowered to choose who I want to see and make more than my bosses.
I used to be obsessed with making money, setting monthly goals, and forcing myself to achieve them. Now I realized I was trading my mental and physical health for money. My financial independence has taught me to value health, family, and self-care more. Sounds corny but it’s true.
Next time we’re at a Michelin starred restaurant enjoying our 15 course tasting menus, tell me to take off my panties and I’ll hand them to you right as the server comes over...
